Course descriptions
Beginner Wheel
Our Beginner Wheel course is the best place to start your pottery journey; we’ll cover all the essential techniques. Learn everything from centering and shaping to trimming and glazing as you create your own functional ceramic pieces.
Continuing Wheel
Designed for students with previous wheel experience, this course helps you refine your skills and build confidence. This is instructor-led course that is project-oriented, meaning that you will be taught techniques and work on projects designed to enhance your skills as a potter (e.g., lidded forms, nesting objects, tall forms, wide forms, matching sets, etc.). In a typical 5-week course focused on skill development, you can expect to complete between four and six pieces, depending on your skill level.
Daytime Ceramics
Enjoy a relaxed daytime class that combines pottery wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques. This is our most affordable multi-week course, perfect for beginners and returning students alike. You'll explore a variety of projects while learning the full ceramics process from clay to glaze.
Hand Building
Discover the creative possibilities of hand building using techniques such as pinch pots, coils, and slabs. This course is ideal for all experience levels and focuses on creating unique, functional, and decorative ceramic pieces without the use of a pottery wheel. Note: Students in this 3-week course will not glaze their pieces themselves. Instead, the pieces will be finished by our studio staff based on their selected glaze.
Mixed Techniques
Experience the best of both worlds by combining pottery wheel throwing with handbuilding techniques. Perfect for anyone who enjoys exploring different ways of working with clay while creating unique functional and decorative pieces.
Focused Project
Ready to take on a bigger challenge on the potter's wheel? Our 4-week Focused Project course is designed for intermediate and experienced potters who want to create a more complex piece—such as a teapot, soap dispenser, or another functional form.
Prerequisite: Students must be able to confidently centre and throw a basic cylinder using two pounds of clay.
Wheel Practice
Our Throw & Throw Away practice sessions give you 2 hours in the studio to experiment, build confidence, and sharpen your throwing skills with unlimited clay. This is self-directed time for students who already know the basics—nothing gets kept, everything goes back to reclaim. Please note: Participants must have previously taken, or be currently enrolled, in a wheel class at our studio.
