Open Studio

Guidelines

How it works

The Open Studio time is intended for students who can work independently without supervision.
Please note: while an instructor and/or technician may be present in the studio, they will not be available to assist with questions related to wheel throwing or hand-building techniques.

✦ Access & Scheduling

  • Access includes two two-hour time slots per week (for a total of 4h/week = 24 hours over 6 weeks).

  • Open Studio hours must be used within your 6-week period.

  • You may choose any time during the following time slots:

    • Mondays 10 AM - 4 PM

    • Tuesdays 1 PM - 6 PM

    • Wednesdays 10 AM - 8 PM

    • Thursdays 10 AM - 4 PM

    • Fridays 10 AM - 6 PM

    • Saturdays 10 AM - 3 PM and 6 PM - 8 PM

    • Sunday 10 AM - 12 PM

  • Your 6-week session begins the week you purchase your membership or as indicated during registration.

  • You may access the studio only during your chosen time/day slots.

  • We cannot always accommodate schedule changes once the session has begun. (See refund policy.)

  • You must sign in and out using our Sign-In Sheet.

  • The studio will be closed on all Federal Holidays; these days will be excluded from your 6-week session.

✦ Materials & Workspace

  • Included materials: one bag of clay, glazes, underglazes, tools, and firing.

    • Additional bags of clay cost $60 + HST ($67.80) each.

  • You may use only the storage space provided. Your assigned space on shelves must hold all of your clay, works in progress (including bisqueware), and personal tools.

  • No production work: due to limited space, you may make only as much work as fits within the dimensions of your designated shelf/space on the shelf.

  • We can only fire clay that has been purchased from our studio.

✦ Firing & Glazing

  • Kiln turnaround time varies from 1–3 weeks, depending on class and workshop volume.

  • Your final session should be focused on glazing only.

  • Unfinished work: Your last session should consist of glazing exclusively, but we will honour any greenware still to be fired and if a subsequent glazing session is necessary this will need to be discussed and coordinated with the studio technician.

Please note: Open Studio registration is currently unavailable as we prepare for our summer closure period. Please email us if you’d like to register for Open Studio starting in September
