Open Studio
Guidelines
How it works
The Open Studio time is intended for students who can work independently without supervision.
Please note: while an instructor and/or technician may be present in the studio, they will not be available to assist with questions related to wheel throwing or hand-building techniques.
✦ Access & Scheduling
Access includes two two-hour time slots per week (total of 24 hours over 6 weeks).
You may choose any time Monday through Friday between 10 AM and 4 PM, or during our class hours if space is available and we have agreed to it.
Your 6-week session begins the week you purchase your membership or as indicated during registration.
You may access the studio only during your chosen time/day slots.
We cannot always accommodate schedule changes once the session has begun. (See refund policy.)
You must sign in and out using our Sign-In Sheet.
The studio will be closed on all Federal Holidays; these days will be excluded from your 6-week session.
✦ Materials & Workspace
Included materials: one bag of clay, glazes, underglazes, tools, and firing.
Additional bags of clay cost $60 + HST each.
You may use only the storage space provided. Your assigned space on shelves must hold all of your clay, works in progress (including bisqueware), and personal tools.
No production work: due to limited space, you may make only as much work as fits within the dimensions of your designated shelf/space on the shelf.
✦ Firing & Glazing
Kiln turnaround time varies from 1–3 weeks, depending on class and workshop volume.
Your final session should be focused on glazing only.
Unfinished work: Your last session should consist of glazing exclusively, but we will honour any greenware still to be fired and if a subsequent glazing session is necessary this will need to be discussed and coordinated with the studio technician.
