Open Studio is designed for potters who are confident working independently without instruction or supervision. To become an Open Studio Member, you must either be an experienced potter or have completed at least three full multi-week courses at our studio. Contact us before registering if you are unsure.

Please note: while an instructor and/or technician may be present in the studio, they will not be available to assist with questions related to wheel throwing or hand-building techniques.

✦ Access & Scheduling

• Your Open Studio Membership includes 4 weeks (16 hours of studio access). All studio hours must be used within your 4-week membership term and cannot be carried over, refunded, or extended beyond the expiry date.

• Open Studio hours are bookable in 2-hour time slots through our booking platform. Time slots begin on the hour.

• To make a booking, you'll first need to purchase an Open Studio Membership. Once your membership is active, you'll receive a unique membership code to redeem at checkout. You can book single sessions, multiple sessions, or set up recurring visits. Please schedule sessions through our booking system at least 24 hours in advance.

• You may NOT produce pottery at home and bring it into the studio to be fired.

• See calendar below for current studio access times. Additional daytime, evening, and weekend sessions may be added based on class schedules and studio availability.

• Open Studio Memberships are non-refundable. However, you’ll have the flexibility to reschedule or cancel individual booked sessions through our online calendar up to 12 hours before the start of your booking.

• Tip: We recommend creating an account when booking your first Open Studio session. While it's not required, having an account makes it easy to view, reschedule, or cancel your bookings anytime.

• When you arrive for your Open Studio session, you must sign in and out using the studio Sign-In Sheet.

• The studio will be closed on all Federal Holidays. These days will not count toward your 4-week session.

✦ Materials & Workspace

• Included materials: one bag of clay, glazes, underglazes, tools, and firing. Please reclaim your clay.

  • Additional bags of clay cost $60 + HST ($67.80) each. Buy it here.

• We can only fire clay that has been purchased from our studio.

• No production work: Open Studio is intended for personal practice and skill development. Due to limited studio space, production-based work and large-volume making are not permitted.

• Maximum Piece Dimensions: Individual pieces must not exceed the shelf space allocated.

• Storage Space: You may use only the storage space designated for Open Studio participants and one box under the shelves to store your clay, tools, and personal belongings. If you are not continuing into the next 4-week session, you must remove all remaining clay, tools, and personal belongings at the end of your current 4-week session, as studio storage space is limited.

✦ Firing & Glazing

• Kiln turnaround time varies from 1–3 weeks, depending on class and workshop volume.

• Your final session should be focused on glazing only.

• Unfinished work: Your last session should consist of glazing exclusively, but we will honour any greenware still to be fired and if a subsequent glazing session is necessary, this will need to be discussed and coordinated with the studio technician.
